DOOR - BOTH FRONT DOORS NOT STAYING OPEN
LINCOLN:

ISSUE
The front doors may not remain open on the door hinge detents when the vehicle is parked on an incline. This may be caused by a door hinge detent
spring that lacks sufficient force to hold the door open under these conditions.
ACTION
To correct this concern, replace the front door lower hinge assemblies on both the driver and passenger doors with revised hinge assemblies. Refer to the
following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE
THE HINGE ASSEMBLIES MUST BE PAINTED PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
1.
Mark the hinge locations on the door and A-pillar using a grease pencil or similar marker. Do not scribe the locations.
2.
Remove the door trim panel (refer to the 1999 Town Car Workshop Manual, Section 501-05).
3.
Remove the interior kick panel at the base of the A-pillar.
4.
Remove the bolts and nuts which secure the lower hinge assembly to the door and A-pillar and remove the hinge assembly. An assistant will be
required to support the door during removal.
5.
Install the revised Front Door Hinge Assembly (XW1Z-5422810-AA) to the door and A-pillar, hand-tightening the fasteners.
6.
Align the new hinge to the hinge locations marked on the door and A-pillar. Tighten the bolts and nuts to 27-34 N.m (20-25 lb-ft).
7.
Reinstall the door trim panel (refer to the 1999 Town Car Workshop Manual, Section 501-05).
