Heater Core: Service and Repair
Back Flushing-Heater Core

WARNING:  Never remove the pressure relief cap while the engine is operating or when the cooling system is hot. Failure to follow these
instructions can result in damage to the cooling system or engine or personal injury. To avoid having scalding hot coolant or steam blow out
of the degas bottle when removing the pressure relief cap, wait until the engine has cooled, then wrap a thick cloth around the pressure relief
cap and turn it slowly. Step back while the pressure is released from the cooling system. when you are sure all the pressure has been released,
(still with a cloth) turn and remove the pressure relief cap. 

1. Once pressure is released, remove the pressure relief cap.
2. Partially drain the cooling system.

NOTE:  Refer to the cooling system Flush-All Operating Instructions for particular vehicle hook-up.

3. Use cooling system Flush-All, Flush Kit Hardware Package and Drain Kit to backflush the heater core. Use Ford Premium Cooling System Flush

F1AZ-9A503-A meeting Ford specification ESR-M14P7A for vehicles filled with Premium Cooling System Fluid E2FZ-19549-AA or equivalent
meeting Ford specification ESE-M971B44-A (green color). Use warm water for vehicles filled with Extended Life Engine Coolant
F6AZ-19544-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B44-D or DEX-COOL(R) (orange color).

4. Fill the cooling system. See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling System/Service and Repair
