Refinishing

All disc brake rotor refinishing must adhere to the rule that equal amounts of disc brake rotor stock are removed from each braking surface each time a
disc brake rotor is refinished. The minimum allowable overall disc brake rotor thickness is stamped on the disc brake rotor and must not be exceeded. 

Measuring Thickness Of Disc Brake Rotor Braking Surface

1. With a suitable micrometer, measure the overall thickness of the disc brake rotor braking surface at four equally-spaced points around the disc

brake rotor.

2. Using the lowest reading from Step 1, subtract the minimum allowable thickness stamped into the disc brake rotor. The difference, if any,

represents the total amount of material available for machining. A thickness reading less than the minimum rear disc brake rotor thickness requires
disc brake rotor replacement.

3. Remove disc brake caliper/rear disc brake caliper. Position out of the way. Use S-hooks provided with Rotunda On-The-Car Lathe 168-00004 or

equivalent.

4. Using concave receiving washers and five lug nuts, secure disc brake rotor to the wheel hub. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-104 ft. lbs).
5. Make sure Rotunda On-The-Car Brake Lathe mounting surface is free of rust, dirt or other debris. Clean surface with a wire brush.
6. Check wheel hub endplay.
7. Install silencer band on front disc brake rotor/rear disc brake rotor.
8. Make sure tool bits are in good condition and installed properly. Refer to lathe manufacturer's instructions.
9. Install Rotunda On-The-Car Lathe 168-00004 or equivalent following manufacturer's instruction.

CAUTION:  Never refinish a disc brake rotor to the minimum wear or discard thickness.

SERVICE LIMITS

Measure the thickness of the disc brake rotor to determine if it is within the specification. Disc brake rotor minimum (discard) thickness is also
cast in the disc brake rotor. Disc brake rotors have a minimum thickness dimension (minimum wear thickness or discard thickness). This is not the
refinishing dimension. The refinishing dimension is 0.5.-0.76 mm (0.020-0.30 inch) greater than the discard thickness.
