Town Car V8-4.6L VIN W (1997)
6. If the runout is not within specification, remove the wheel and tire assembly. Remove rotor and measure the hub flange mounting face outside of
the stud circle.
7. If the runout of the hub flange exceeds specification, install a new hub and bearing assembly and repeat flange face runout measurement. Reinstall
the rotor and repeat the rotor runout measurement.
8. Wheel hub runout must be less than 0.06 mm (0.002 inch). If the runout of the hub flange is within specification, reindex the rotor to the hub,
reinstall wheel and repeat the measurement.
9. If the car mounted hub and rotor still exceeds the specification, replace the rotor, repeat the runout measurement and reindex the rotor if necessary.
10. Prior to reinstalling the rotor, clean the hub face and backside of rotor hat section of contaminants. Apply High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize
Lubricant F6AZ-9L494-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M12A4-A. Install rotor.
11. Reinstall the caliper and caliper bracket.
Rear
CAUTION: The rotor runout specification must be met to assure proper brake performance without premature vehicle return with shudder or roughness
complaints.
1. Do not remove wheel and tire. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-104 ft. lbs). Raise and support vehicle.
2. Assemble Rotunda Disc Rotor and Ball Joint Gauge 134-R0199 or equivalent and extension. Install spherical tip on extension.
3. Locate an opening on inboard side of rotor between disc brake caliper and dust shield.
4. Clamp Rotunda Disc Rotor and Ball Joint Gauge 134-R0199 or equivalent on vehicle making sure flexible indicator arm and probe tip does not
touch dust shield or tire.
NOTE: Position Rotunda Disc Rotor and Ball Joint Gauge 134-R0199 or equivalent so dial indicator tip is at least 5 mm (0.196 inch) from outer
edge of rotor.
5. Rotate wheel for six revolutions. Record total indicated runout.
NOTE: Do not apply any lateral force on wheel while rotating.
6. Clamp Rotunda Disc Rotor and Ball Joint Gauge 134-R0199 or equivalent on vehicle. Have an assistant push inward on wheel cover or axle shaft
center while rotating wheel.
