Cruise Control Switch: Service and Repair
With Optional Steering Wheel
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
WARNING
-
THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT IS SERVICED.

THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT NECESSARY FOR SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT IS POWERED DIRECTLY FROM THE
BATTERY AND BACKUP POWER SUPPLY. TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL
INJURY, THE BATTERY POSITIVE CABLE MUST BE DISCONNECTED FOR ONE MINUTE TO DE-ENERGIZE THE
BACKUP POWER SUPPLY PRIOR TO SERVICING OR REPLACING ANY SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
2. Disconnect positive battery cable and wait one minute for backup power supply to deplete its stored energy.
3. Remove two back cover plugs from steering wheel. Remove two screw and washer assemblies retaining driver side air bag module to steering
wheel.
4. Disconnect air bag electrical connector from air bag sliding contact connector. Disconnect red horn connector from steering wheel assembly.
5. Remove driver side air bag module from steering wheel.
WARNING: PLACE AIR BAG MODULE ON BENCH WITH TRIM COVER FACING UP.
6. Remove back cover from steering wheel assembly.
7. Disconnect speed control connector from air bag sliding contact connector.
8. Slide 6-way speed control connector off back cover.
9. Remove back cover from steering wheel assembly. Pry off RH speed control switch.
10. Feed speed control switch through access hole in the steering wheel.
11. Repeat Steps 9 and 10 for LH speed control switch.
INSTALLATION
1. Feed LH speed control switch through LH access hole located in the back of the steering wheel. Do the same for the RH speed control switch.
Make sure that speed control switch snaps into the steering wheel.
2. Slide six-way connector onto back cover.
3. Fasten back cover onto steering wheel. Make sure wires are positioned so that no wires are pinched when the back cover is assembled to the
steering wheel.
4. Connect speed control connector from air bag sliding contact to six-way connector in back cover.
5. Position driver side air bag module on steering wheel and connect air bag sliding contact. Connect red horn connector.
6. Install driver side air bag module on steering wheel and install two bolts. Tighten bolts to 10.2-13.8 Nm (91-122 Lb-in).
7. Assemble two back cover plugs into the steering wheel.
8. Reconnect positive battery cable.
9. Reconnect battery ground cable.
10. Prove out air bag system.
