Removal and Installation

REMOVAL

1. Remove valve covers (6582).
2. Position piston of cylinder being serviced at the bottom of its stroke and camshaft lobe at base circle.

CAUTION:  If Valve Spring Spacer T91P-6565-AH is not used, valve spring retainer (6514) will hit valve stem seal (6571) resulting in damage
to the valve stem seal.

3. Install Valve Spring Spacer between valve spring coils to prevent valve stem seal damage.
4. Install Valve Spring Compressor T91P-6565-A under camshaft (6250) and on top of valve spring retainer.
5. Compress valve spring (6513) and remove rocker arm (6564).
6. Remove Valve Spring Compressor and Valve Spring Spacer.
7. Repeat Steps 2 through 6 until all necessary rocker arms are removed.
8. Remove valve tappets (6500) from cylinder heads (6049).
9. Clean and inspect valve tappets.

INSTALLATION

1. Apply clean engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-F to valve stem and tip, rocker arm roller contact surfaces and valve tappets and

cylinder head valve tappet bore.

NOTE:  Valve tappets must have no more than 1.5 mm (0.059 inch) of plunger travel prior to installation.

2. Install valve tappets into cylinder heads.
3. Install Valve Spring Spacer between valve spring coils.

NOTE:  Piston must be at the bottom of its stroke and camshaft at base circle.

4. Compress valve spring using Valve Spring Compressor and install rocker arm.
5. Remove Valve Spring Compressor and Spacer.
6. Repeat Steps 3 through 5 until all rocker arms are installed.
7. Install valve covers.
8. Start engine and check for leaks.
