The luggage compartment lamp:

is mounted in the underside of the luggage compartment door.

illuminates when the luggage compartment door is opened and the battery saver feature is not active.
The luggage compartment lamp housing contains a mercury switch that closes the lamp circuit when the luggage compartment door is opened.
