Pitman Arm: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove and discard the nut that retains the steering sector shaft arm drag link to the steering gear sector shaft arm.
2. Disconnect the steering sector shaft arm drag link from the steering gear sector shaft arm using Tie Rod End Remover TOOL-3290-D or

equivalent.

3. Remove the steering gear sector shaft arm retaining nut and lock washer.
4. Position the front wheels in the straight-ahead position, and remove the steering gear sector shaft arm using Pitman Arm Puller T64P-3590-F.

INSTALLATION

1. With the front wheels in the straight-ahead position, place the steering gear sector shaft arm pointing rearward on the sector shaft. Align the blind

tooth on the steering gear sector shaft arm with the blind tooth on the sector shaft of the steering gear.

2. Install the nut and lockwasher. Tighten to 271-339 Nm (200-250 ft. lbs.).

3. Install the nut that retains the steering sector shaft arm drag link to the steering gear sector shaft arm. Tighten to 69.5-80.5 Nm (52-59 ft. lbs.).
