Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Priming

Procedure No. 1

1. Remove the fitting from the pressure port and pour Premium Power Steering Fluid E6AZ-19582-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification

ESW-M2C33-F into the pressure port with the port facing upward to maximize the amount of fluid added to the power steering pump. Turn the
power steering pump driveshaft slowly during this procedure to allow more fluid to enter the power steering pump.

NOTE:  If replacing the power steering pump, it must be primed with the specified power steering fluid prior to INSTALLATION.

2. Mount the power steering pump to the vehicle in a manner that does not allow the fluid to escape from the power steering pump.
3. Connect the hoses to the power steering pump and power steering oil reservoir.
4. Fill the reservoir to the proper level.
5. Start the engine and slowly make stop-to-stop turns to purge air from the system.
6. Stop the engine and check the fluid level. Add additional fluid to the power steering oil reservoir (if necessary) to the proper level.

Procedure No. 2

When the unprimed replacement power steering pump has been mounted to the engine:

1. Connect hoses to the power steering pump and power steering oil reservoir.
2. Fill the power steering oil reservoir to the proper level.
3. Raise the front of the vehicle until both front wheels are off the ground.
4. Start the vehicle and slowly make stop-to-stop turns to purge air from the system.
5. Stop the engine and add additional fluid to the power steering oil reservoir (if necessary) to the proper level.
6. Lower front of vehicle and check power steering system for proper operation.
