Variable Assist Control Valve: Description and Operation
The power steering control valve actuator is located on the power steering pump below the engine on the LH side.
The power steering control valve actuator generates a differential pressure, dependent on flow and current input.
^
This differential pressure is used to control the spool valve in the CIII power steering pump.
^
The power steering control valve actuator/spool valve regulates the hydraulic flow and when combined with a current controlling device, yields a
variable assist power steering pump.
^
In the event of an electrical circuit malfunction such as circuit open, shorted, or control module failure, the actuator will provide full power
steering assist.
