1. Remove steering gear.
2. Hold the steering gear upside down over a drain pan and cycle the power steering gear input shaft and control from stop-to-stop several times to

drain the fluid from the steering gear.

3. Using mounting pads for support, secure the steering gear in Bench Mounted Holding Fixture T57L-500-B.
4. Remove the locknut from the adjusting screw.
5. Turn the power steering gear input shaft and control to either stop, then back approximately 1-5/8 turns to center the steering gear.

NOTE:  Centerline of the two indexing flats should be facing in the four o'clock position.

6. Remove the sector shaft cover bolts.
7. Tap the lower end of the steering gear sector shaft with a soft-faced hammer to loosen. Lift the steering gear sector shaft housing cover and

steering gear sector shaft as an assembly from the steering gear housing. Discard the O-ring.

8. Turn the steering gear sector shaft housing cover counterclockwise to remove the steering gear sector shaft housing cover from the sector shaft

adjuster screw. Hold screw with screwdriver if necessary.

9. Remove valve housing retaining bolts and identification tag. Separate valve housing from steering gear housing while holding the piston keeping it

from spinning off the shaft. Remove the valve housing-to-steering gear housing O-ring. Discard O-rings.

NOTE:  If valve housing seals are to be replaced, proceed to Step 11. If the sector shaft seals are to be replaced, refer to Steering Gear Housing.

10. With the piston held so that the ball guide faces up, remove the ball guide clamp screws and the ball guide clamp. With a finger over the opening

in the ball guide, turn the piston so that the ball guide faces down over a clean container and let the guide tubes drop into the container.

11. Rotate the power steering gear input shaft and control from-stop-to-stop, until all the balls fall from the piston into the container. The valve

assembly can then be removed from the piston. Inspect the piston bore to make sure all the balls have been removed.
