Service Procedure
Vehicles that exhibit ride characteristics which are determined to be firmer than normal should be checked for the following conditions:
^
Wheels - Verify that the wheels installed on the vehicle are original equipment. Some aftermarket or custom wheels do not have the correct rim
width, offset, and weight as original equipment wheels
^
Tires - Verify the tires are of the same brand, type, size, and construction as originally installed on the vehicle. The suspension and steering systems
were designed to provide optimum ride and handling with the original equipment tires. Tires of different size, brand or construction may not provide
the same levels of ride quality and handling
^
Tire Pressure - Maintaining the correct tire pressure is critical to maintaining customer satisfaction with the ride and handling of the vehicle. This
information is located on the right rear door jamb decal
^
Body-to-Frame Mounts - The body-to-frame mounts are an intergal part of the entire vehicle suspension system. Mounts that are misaligned or
over-compressed may increase the transmission of road inputs felt by the driver of the vehicle
Body Mount Inspection Procedure
NOTE:
RAISE THE VEHICLE USING A DRIVE-ON TYPE HOIST. USE OF A FRAME TYPE HOIST WILL NOT PERMIT PROPER INSPECTION
OF THE BODY MOUNTS.
Carefully inspect all of the body mounts for any signs of damage, deterioration, misalignment and proper compression. Refer to Page 01-01-4 of the
1997 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis or Town Car Service Manual for frame/body mount locations. Refer to Figures 1 through 7 for correct alignment
and compression.
