Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR INSPECTION [LF, L5]
Visual Inspection
1. Remove the battery cover. See: Starting and Charging/Battery/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the plug hole plate. See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Engine/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Plug Hole Plate
Removal/Installation
4. Disconnect the CMP sensor connector.
5. Remove the CMP sensor. See: Service and Repair
6. Verify that there are no metal shavings on the CMP sensor.

Remove any metal shavings that are adhering.
Voltage Inspection
1. Idle the engine.
2. Measure the CMP sensor output wave pattern using an oscilloscope. (See See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and
Inspection/Component Tests and General Diagnostics/PCM Inspection)

If not within the specification, replace the CMP sensor. See: Service and Repair
