Gear Disassembly
1.
Drain lubricant from steering gear housing, then install steering gear assembly in a suitable vise, Figs. 18 and 19.
2.
Remove tie rod end. Mark threaded portion of tie rod for reference when reassembling.
3.
Remove boot band, boot and boot wires.
4.
Remove pressure and return lines from housing.
5.
Remove valve case seal.
6.
Uncrimp tie rod lock washer, then remove tie rod from rack.
7.
Remove damper ring, then the adjust cover locknut, adjust cover, spring and rack support.
8.
Protect outer box with cloth, then remove outer box with suitable pipe wrench.
