Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair

1.
Raise and support rear of vehicle.
2.
Remove shock absorber lower attaching bolts and nuts, Fig. 9.
3.
Remove brake hose clip from lower shock absorber mounting.
4.
Remove mounting block attaching nuts. The rear seat and trim should be removed to gain access to mounting block nuts.
5.
Remove shock absorber assembly and secure in a suitable vise.
6.
Loosen nut at upper end of shock absorber, then compress spring using suitable spring compressors and remove the nut.
7.
Remove shock absorber mounting block, then the spring seat, dust boot and coil spring.
8.
Remove bound stopper and shock absorber, Fig. 9.
9.
Reverse procedure to install. Position mounting block and shock absorber so hole on 626 models or white mark on 323 models in mounting block
faces toward inside of vehicle. On 626 models, the right mounting block can be identified by the white paint on its upper surface.
