WIND NOISE DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

2003-2008 Mazda6
(Service Bulletin is not applicable to Mazdaspeed6)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience a wind noise concern that is difficult to isolate. The following are the leading areas for wind noise concerns.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Verify customer concern by road testing vehicle to verify where wind noise is coming from.

If wind noise is coming from under vehicle, complete Steps 2 - 4.

If wind noise is coming from door area, complete Steps 5 - 9.

Secure vehicle on hoist and lift.

3.

Inspect exhaust heat shields under vehicle. Heat shields must be secure and have proper clearance from vehicle body, otherwise, they may vibrate
against body. Vibration may cause wind noise that can be heard from under vehicle.

4.

If necessary, adjust clearance between heat shield and vehicle body; retighten heat shield mounting bolts.

Tightening Torque: 7.8 Nm (80 - 110 kgf. cm, 70 - 95 in. lbf.)

5.

Inspect door sash position. The door sash needs to be just under flush, not exceeding 2 mm under.

NOTE:

Too far out may cause wind noise, too far in may cause increased door closing effort.
