MIL ILLUMINATION WITH DTC P2227

All 2003 Mazda6 vehicles built prior to Feb. 10, 2003 with VINs of 1YV*P8*D**5M00001 to 5N18296
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may experience one of the following concerns which causes the MIL to illuminate with a DTC P2227 (EGR boost sensor circuit failure)
to be stored in memory.

The tip of the EGR boost sensor solenoid valve breaks.
^
The vacuum hose comes off the tip of the EGR boost sensor solenoid valve.
In cold weather conditions of approx. 14 degrees F or lower, the vacuum hose becomes hard and loses flexibility. During normal engine movement, the
vacuum hose shakes the EGR boost sensor solenoid valve up and down causing the hose to come off the tip and break. This results in MIL illumination.
The vacuum hose material on the solenoid valve side has been changed from fluorine rubber to acrylic rubber. The shape of the vacuum hose has also
been changed.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify concern.
2.
Replace the vacuum hose assembly with a new style hose.
NOTE:

Only replace the EGR boost sensor solenoid valve if the tip is found to be broken.

The EGR boost sensor solenoid valve is located on the bulkhead near brake master cylinder.
3.
Verify repair.
