2003 - 2006 MAZDA6 3.0L - UNUSUAL NOISE FROM STARTER MOTOR

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2003 - 2006 Mazda6 3.0L vehicles equipped with manual transmissions built before August 15, 2005

DESCRIPTION

When releasing the ignition switch after starting the engine, a whining noise may be heard from the starter motor. The noise may be due to dust produced
by clutch disc wear. The dust sticks to the grease causing a lack of lubrication, and as a result, the pinion gear cannot operate smoothly.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Verify customer concern.

2.

Replace the starter motor according to the Workshop Manual (section 01-19 STARTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

3.

Verify repair.
