FAIL-SAFE MODE FOR KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE AND STEERING LOCK UNIT
APPLICABLE MODEL(S) / VINS
2009 MAZDA6
DESCRIPTION
Vehicles equipped with Advance Keyless Entry have a theft Fail-Safe mode to ensure customer and vehicle safety. The system will prevent the engine
from being started if any of the following DTCs are detected and either of these two (2) conditions are met:
1. Within 56 hours after the malfunction is detected.
2. When the push button start is switched to the ON position five (5) times or more.
Subject DTCs:

B100B:11_Steering lock unit ground circuit voltage less than threshold.
^
B100C:12_Steering lock unit power supply circuit voltage higher than threshold.
^
B1026:62_Keyless control module receives mismatched signal.
^
B1026:92_Keyless control module receives position signal indicating a serious malfunction.
^
U3000:49_Keyless control module internal malfunction.
The customer will also be notified via the instrument cluster warning light that there is a concern.
NOTE:
If the customer suspects the vehicle is operating in fail-safe mode, advise the customer to immediately bring the vehicle to the dealer without shutting off
the engine. If the engine is shut off, it may not restart.
NOTE:
If the steering lock unit and/or keyless control module related harness are replaced during ANY repair, and the battery is not disconnected first, this may
inadvertently induce one of the DTCs. The unexpected malfunction may cause the fail-safe mode to operate.
How to confirm if the vehicle is in fail-safe mode:

Depress the clutch pedal (MTX) or the brake pedal (ATX) while the ignition is OFF. If both lights turn red, the system may be in fail-safe mode.
