1.

Make sure the battery is fully charged.

2.

Turn ignition key on to "Ig" position. If the alternator warning light is "off", the problem is likely caused by regulator. Leave the key in "Ig"
position and take the following step to assure the cause.

Insert voltmeter between "F" terminal and nearest ground point.

Note:

a.

"F" terminal position is shown in the figure.

b.

Do not ground to the body of the alternator while positive probe of volt meter is inserted through the hole for "F" terminal.

If the volt meter reads;

1.

12 volts;           Defective IC regulator.

2.

0 - 0.5 volts;     Open field coil or insufficient contact of brushes.

3.

0.5 - 1.0 volts;    Defective warning light bulb.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Please refer to the Workshop Manual, Section "5", for IC regulator replacing procedure.

Note:

Be sure the insulators are in the proper position as shown in the figure.
