Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2.

Disconnect the throttle sensor connector.

Adjusting Throttle Sensor

3.

Remove the throttle sensor mounting screws and remove the throttle sensor.

4.

Clean the mounting area of any contaminants and install the throttle sensor on the throttle shaft.  Install the mounting screws.

5.

Install the adapter harness  (Mazda Part# 49 G018901) between the throttle sensor and the wiring harness.

Caution:  Use a precision voltmeter with a scale of 0.01 volts to inspect or adjust the throttle sensor.

6.   Remove the air hose from the throttle body.
7.   Turn the ignition switch on.
8.   Make sure that the throttle valve is fully closed.

Testing Voltage

9.   Measure the RED wire voltage and record it.

10.   Check the BLUE wire voltage.
11.   Loosen the throttle sensor mounting screws.

Test Harness Connected

12.   Turn the throttle sensor to adjust BLUE wire voltage within the range specified for the recorded RED wire voltage.
