Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Crankshaft Position Sensor 2
PURPOSE
Provides PCME engine speed (Ne2 signal) input. Signal used by PCME in calculations requiring rpm information.
LOCATION
Beneath crankshaft pulley.
OPERATION
As reluctor passes pick-up, magnetic field is interrupted. Pulses are generated at the rate of 6 per engine revolution, or one each 60° of crankshaft
rotation.
CONSTRUCTION
Stationary magnetic pick-up. Reluctor, part of and turned by crankshaft pulley, interrupts pick-up magnetic field 6 times per engine revolution.
Sensor generates a pulse each 60° of crankshaft rotation.
