929 V6-3.0L DOHC (1993)
Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection
NOTE: This test requires use of Mazda Special Service Tools (SST) or aftermarket equivalents.
PREPARATION
1.
Unplug igniter connector and install SST Adapter Harness between igniter and vehicle harness.
2.
Connect 4-pin connector of SST Igniter Checker to adapter harness
3.
Connect power leads of Igniter Checker to battery.
SPARK TEST
1.
Turn ignition ON.
2.
Disconnect coil lead from distributor and hold 0.20 - 0.39 in (5 - 10 mm) from ground.
3.
Set switch to T1.
4.
Flip SW2 ON and OFF and verify that strong blue sparks are discharged from high tension lead.
CAUTION: Do not hold SW2 ON for more than one second.
VOLTAGE TEST
1.
Turn ignition ON.
2.
Connect analog voltmeter to terminal of black wire on adapter harness.
3.
Flip SW2 ON and OFF and verify that voltmeter pointer fluctuates.
CAUTION: Do not hold SW2 ON for more than one second.
