Oxygen Sensor: Testing and Inspection
Component Inspection
TERMINAL VOLTAGE
Oxygen Sensor Terminal Voltage
1.
Warm engine to operating temperature and run at idle.
2.
Unplug oxygen sensor connector and connect voltmeter between terminals A and B.
3.
Measure voltage while suddenly increasing and decreasing engine speed several times:
Deceleration: Below 0.4V
Acceleration: Above 0.5V
4.
Replace sensor if not as specified.
HEATER RESISTANCE
1.
Measure resistance between terminals C and B. It should be 4 - 40 ohms @ 68°F (20°C).
2.
Replace sensor if not as specified.
SENSITIVITY
1.
Warm engine to operating temperature. Connect SST's (System Selector and Self-Diagnosis Checker), or equivalent, to data link connector. Set
switch A to position 1. Set TEST SW to 02 MONITOR.
2.
Increase engine speed to between 2000 and 3000 rpm. Verify that monitor lamp flashes for 10 seconds and flashes more than 8 times.
3.
If not as specified, replace sensor.
NOTE:
^ Brake pedal depressed: Monitors right oxygen sensor
^ Brake pedal released: Monitors left oxygen sensor
