Airbag Module Disposal
Precautions
Before a vehicle with an undeployed airbag module is scrapped, the airbag module must be deployed. Never dispose of a live airbag module.
Review the following precautions prior to performing the airbag module deployment procedure.
1.
Deployment must be done in a safe, open space avoiding strong winds.
2.
Use the deployment tool No. 49 H066 002, when deploying the airbag module and stand at least 20 feet away from airbag module during
deployment to protect hearing.
3.
Inspect deployment tool prior to its use.
4.
Do not touch airbag module for 15 minutes after deployment due to heat.
5.
Do not cool airbag module using water.
6.
When handling an airbag module, wear gloves and safety glasses.
7.
Place airbag in a vinyl bag and seal it for disposal.
8.
Wash your hands after handing the deployed airbag module.

1.
Connect the deployment tool No. No. 49 H066 002 to a vehicle battery.
2.
Verify green lamp is illuminated on the deployment tool.
3.
Connect connectors A and B as shown in Fig. 21, and verify that the red lamp is illuminated on the deployment tool.
4.
Press activation switch and ensure green lamp remains illuminated and the red lamp does not.
5.
Replace the deployment tool if the tool was judged defective.
Airbag Module Deployment
AIR BAG MODULE DISPOSAL PROCEDURE
Before scrapping a vehicle with an undeployed air bag module, deploy the air bag. Never dispose of a live air bag module. If the deployment tool SST
is not available, consult the nearest Mazda representative for assistance.
Air Bag Deployment
1. Move the vehicle to an open space, away from strong winds, and open all of the vehicle's doors.
2. Deactivate the audio antitheft system, if installed.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
