Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
Sensor provides PCME with a vehicle road speed signal. PCME uses this input in calculations for:
^ Fuel injection quantity
^ Ignition timing
^ Idle speed control
^ Purge control
LOCATION
PCME picks up signal from speedometer assembly. Actual speed sensor is located on transmission.
OPERATION
Sensor on transmission is a magnetic pulse generator driven by the mainshaft.
