Variable Induction Control Valve: Testing and Inspection
Swirl Control Valve (TICS)

SYSTEM INSPECTION

1.

Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature and run it at idle.

2.

Check that the rod is pulled into the swirl control valve actuator at idle.

Swirl Control Valve Actuator Above 4,000 RPM

3.

Gradually increase the engine speed and check that the rod extends above approx. 4,000 rpm.

VACUUM SIGNAL

1.

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the swirl control valve actuator.

2.

Place a finger over the hose and check that vacuum is felt at idle.

3.   Gradually increase the engine speed, and check that no vacuum is felt above approx. 4,000 rpm.

4.

Connect the vacuum hose to the actuator.

SOLENOID VALVE (TICS)

1.

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the solenoid valve.
