Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair

PARKING BRAKE CABLE - REAR
Removal and Installation
Note:

Make sure the parking brake control is fully released.
1. Relieve the tension on the parking brake system.

Pull down on the front parking brake cable and conduit.

Insert a 4 mm (5/32 inch) drill bit or equivalent retainer.
2. Remove the brake shoes.
3. Disconnect the RH rear parking brake cable from the intermediate cable at the cable union.
4. Compress the retainer and separate the RH rear parking brake cable from the LH rear parking brake cable at the equalizer.
5. Remove the parking brake cable wireform bracket bolt.

To install, tighten to 35 N-m (3.6 kgf-m, 26 ft-lbf).
6. Separate the LH rear parking brake cable from the frame bracket.

Remove the equalizer.
