Do not use a hammer to separate the ball joint from the wheel spindle or damage to the wheel spindle will result.
Caution:

Do not damage the ball joint boot while installing the special tool.
9. Using the SST 211-023, separate the lower ball joint from the wheel spindle and remove the front wheel spindle.
Caution:

Always install the cotter pins into the nuts from the outboard to inboard, with the fingers bent together at a right angle. Failure to do
so will result in damage to the wheel and tire assembly.
10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
