2004-2005 B-Series Trucks (produced before April 1, 2005)
DESCRIPTION
Some 2004-2005 B-Series Trucks built before 4/1/2005 and equipped with a limited slip rear axle may exhibit a chaffer, shudder, binding sensation or a
vibration during low speed turns. This may be due to the axle not having the proper amount of friction modifier installed.
Since the amount of friction modifier already in the fluid is unknown, the rear axle lubricant must be drained and refilled. Adding modifier to an axle that
already has friction modifier installed can be detrimental to seal and lubricant performance. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle
repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify customer concern.
2.
Raise and support the vehicle on a hoist.
3.
Remove the 10 axle housing cover bolts and drain the lubricant from the rear axle housing.
4.
Remove the axle housing cover.
CAUTION:

Make sure the machined surfaces on both the rear axle housing and the axle housing cover are clean and free of oil before installing the
new silicone sealant. The inside of the rear axle must be covered when cleaning the machined surface to prevent contamination.
5.
Clean the mating surfaces of the rear axle and the differential housing cover.
