Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
2. Rotate the camshaft so that the base circle of the cam is facing the applicable rocker arm.
3. Collapse the valve spring and slide the rocker over the lash adjuster and out, using the valve spring compressor tool (SST# 49 UN01 135).
4. Remove the hydraulic lash adjuster.
INSTALLATION
1. Rotate the camshaft so that the base circle of the cam is facing the applicable rocker arm.
2. Place the hydraulic lash adjuster in position in the bore.
3. Collapse the valve spring using the valve spring compressor tool (SST# 49 UN01 135).
4. Position the rocker arm over the lash adjuster and the valve stem.
5. Before rotating the camshaft to the next position, make sure the hydraulic lash adjuster that was just installed is fully compressed and released.
6. Install the cylinder head cover.
a. Clean the gasket surfaces of the cylinder head cover and cylinder head.
b. Install the cylinder head cover gasket.
c. Install the cylinder head cover and tighten to 9-13 Nm (80-115 inch lbs.)
