Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the transmission.
3. Remove the clutch cover and clutch disc (MT).
4. Remove the flywheel (MT).
5. Remove the drive plate (AT).
6. Remove the rear oil seal.

Cut the oil seal lip with a razor knife.

Remove the oil seal by using a screwdriver protected with a rag.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the rear oil seal using the SST 49 UN01 070 crankshaft seal installer.
CAUTION: The rear face of the oil seal must be within 0.508 mm (0.019 in) of the rear face of the cylinder block.
NOTE: Apply a small amount of clean engine oil on the new oil seal and the seal mating surface. Install the new oil seal with the spring side
toward the engine.
2. Install the drive plate (AT)

Install the reinforcement plate and bolts and tighten to 73-87 Nm (54-64 ft. lbs.)
3. Install the flywheel (MT)

Install the flywheel and bolts and tighten to 73-87 Nm (54-64 ft. lbs.)
4. Install the clutch cover and clutch disc (MT).
5. Install the transmission.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
