Subject:
RESONANCE NOISE IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AT OR NEAR 2800 RPM
APPLICABLE MODELS
1997 B-2300 Trucks with air conditioning.
DESCRIPTION
A resonance noise may be heard in the passenger compartment at or near 2800 RPM on some vehicles. The resonance is caused by the A/C and engine
components that peak at 2800 RPM. An A/C system vibration damper is available to change the resonant frequency and reduce the noise.
Customers complaining of the above noise should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, have a vibration damper installed on the A/C suction line.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify concern occurs at or near 2800 RPM.
^
If resonance noise occurs proceed to step 2.
^
If resonance noise does not occur, refer to the NVH manual or workshop manual for diagnostic information.
NOTE:
Use factory installed tachometer or NGS PID data to confirm RPM resonance.
2.
Install the vibration damper on the A/C suction line as shown in Fig. 1.
^
Torque to 2.7 Nm (24in-lb.)
3.
Verify repair.
