Fuel Pressure Regulator: Testing and Inspection

WARNING:  Before performing the following operation, release the fuel pressure from the fuel system to reduce the possibility of injury or
fire.

See: Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Release

Fuel Pressure

1. Connect the SST.
2. Start the engine and run it at idle.
3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator and plug it.
4. Drive vehicle with heavy acceleration while observing fuel pressure gauge reading.

Fuel pressure reading: Hold steady within 20.6 kPa (3 psi)

5. If the fuel line pressure does not hold, check for clogged fuel filter.
6. Connect a vacuum pump to the pressure regulator.
7. Apply vacuum to the pressure regulator.
8. Verify that the fuel line pressure decreases as vacuum increases.
9. If the fuel line pressure does not decrease when vacuum increases, replace the pressure regulator. If the fuel line pressure decreases when vacuum

increases, check vacuum hose and vacuum source.
