Steering Gear: Service and Repair
With Power Steering
Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the supply and return lines from the steering gear. Plug the lines and the ports in the gear.
2. Remove in the order shown in the illustration, referring to the following:
Pitman Arm (3)
Remove the pitman arm using Pitman Arm Puller T64P3590-F or equivalent.
INSTALLATION
1. Install in the reverse order of removal, referring to the following:
Steering Gear (4)
1. Center the steering gear input shaft with the indexing flat facing down.
2. Position the steering gear input shaft into the flex coupling.
Tightening torque: 40.3 - 54.7 Nm (29.4 - 39.9 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the steering gear bolts.
Tightening torque: 68 - 84 Nm (50 - 62 ft. lbs.).
4. Connect and tighten the supply and return lines.
Tightening torque: 27 - 41 Nm (20 - 30 ft. lbs.).
5. Add ATF Type-F (M2C33-F) or Dexron II.
