Transmission Cooler: Testing and Inspection
NOTE: Selector cable, linkage, fluid level and control pressure must be accurate before performing this inspection .
1. Remove the oil dipstick.
2. Place a funnel in the oil dipstick tube.
3. Raise the vehicle on a vehicle hoist.
4. Disconnect the outlet oil cooler pipe from the transmission case.
5. Attach a hose to the outlet oil cooler pipe and install the free end of the hose into the funnel.
6. With the transmission in N (Neutral) run the vehicle at 1000 rpm.
7. Watch the fluid flow for a solid stream.
8. If the fluid does not flow in a solid stream, a low oil pump capacity, main circuit system leakage, stuck converter charge relief valve or a cooler
restriction is indicated.
9. To diagnose if the problem is in the transmission or in the oil cooler perform the same test using the inlet pipe.
