Wiper Motor: Service and Repair

The internal permanent magnets used in the windshield wiper motor are a ceramic material. Care must be exercised in handling the windshield
wiper motor to avoid damaging the magnets. Do not strike or tap the windshield wiper motor with a hammer or other object.

1. Cycle wiper blades until they are in straight-up position and turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect battery and wiper motor electrical connector.
3. Remove right windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft and windshield wiper blade.
4. Remove right pivot nut and allow the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip to drop into the cowl top outer panel.
5. Remove linkage access cover, located on the right side of the dash panel near the windshield wiper motor.
6. Reach through the access cover opening and unsnap the wiper motor clip.
7. Push the clip away from the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip until it clears the nib on the crack pin. Then, push the clip off the

windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip.

8. Remove the windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip from windshield wiper motor crank pin.
9. Remove nut and ground strap stud.

10. Remove three attaching screws from windshield wiper motor Remove the windshield wiper motor.
11. Install wiper motor by reversing procedure.
12. Tighten wiper motor mounting screws to 6.8-9.2 N.m (10-14 Lb. ft.).
