DESCRIPTION
This bulletin contains information on frame rivet replacement. Symptom descriptions, repair procedures, parts and warranty information are also outlined
in this bulletin.
NOTE:
Service Managers should make a copy of these procedures and enclose them in section S of the appropriate workshop manual.
SYMPTOMS - This bulletin covers only the symptoms listed below

Replacing the Huck Rivet on the Front Frame Area - Due to Noise
NOTE:
Refer to the applicable workshop manual for symptoms not covered in this bulletin.
SYMPTOM A. Frame Rivet Replacement
DESCRIPTION
When damaged or loose rivets are encountered, replace the rivets with the approved service bolts.
CAUTION:
Welding the rivet to the frame is not acceptable.
SERVICE BOLT INSTALLATION
If the rivet requires replacement, install approved service bolts according to the information below.
1.
Drill a 3.175 mm (1/8 in.) hole through the loose or damaged rivet.
2.
Re-drill the same hole through the shank of the rivet.

10 mm (3/8 in.) Rivets - Drill 8.731 mm (11/32 in.)

11.113 mm (7/16 in.) Rivets - Drill 9.525 mm (3/8 in.)
3.
Remove the rivet head with a fiat chisel and hammer (or an air chisel).
4.
Drive out rivet with a punch and hammer.
5.
Line ream the hole to match the nominal size of the Service bolt with a hole tolerance of +/- 0.127 mm (0.005 in.). Refer to the Parts Information
below.
6.
Clear the area of any burrs to allow proper seating of bolt head and nut.
7.
Select a bolt length that allows at least two (2) threads (minimum) to protrude from the nut when properly torqued. Refer to the Parts Information
below.
