DESCRIPTION
There may be a no start or no crank condition caused by a dead battery. This may be caused by the heater fan circuit.
If the fan is left in the "ON" position when the key is turned "OFF", the regulator may leave the alternator energized even with the key "OFF".
If a customer complains of this problem, install a jumper harness kit in the instrument panel cluster wiring harness to prevent the alternator from being
energized when the key is "OFF".
REPAIR PROCEDURES
1.
Record all preset radio stations in the vehicle's audio system.
2.
Disconnect battery.
3.
Remove instrument panel cluster. Refer to the workshop manual, section S for removal instructions.
4.
Locate the brown, 14 way connector. Refer to Fig 1.
5.
Remove approximately 5.5 inches (140 mm) of tape from the wires that lead to the connector.
6.
Pry the red lock wedge from the front of the connector with a pick or pointed tool.
