"CREAKING" NOISE DURING CLUTCH PEDAL APPLICATION
DESCRIPTION
A "creak" noise may be heard during clutch pedal application. This is caused by a "flat spot" on the clutch pedal pivot point.
Follow the procedure in this bulletin to determine the necessary repair.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Confirm That The "Creak" Noise Is Caused By The Clutch Pedal Pivot Pin
1.
Remove the master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal pin. Refer to the instructions in section H of the workshop manual.
2.
Lube the inner diameter of the push rod bushing with silicone lubricant.
NOTE:
Do Not lubricate the cross shaft bushing, master cylinder or push rod.
3.
Install the push rod on the clutch pedal pin.
4.
Apply the clutch.

If the noise is eliminated, replace the clutch pedal and master cylinder push rod bushing using the procedure described in this bulletin.

If the creak can still be heard, replace the concentric slave cylinder. Refer to the instructions in section H of the workshop manual.
NOTE:
Vehicles Built Before June 1, 1993 - Replace the clutch pedal and master cylinder push rod bushing using the procedure described in this bulletin.
Vehicles Built After June 1, 1993 - Do not replace the clutch pedal and master cylinder push rod bushing.
The build date is listed on the driver's side "B" pillar.
Clutch Pedal And Master Cylinder Push Rod Bushing Replacement
1.
Disconnect the battery.
NOTE:
Record customer's preset stations prior to disconnecting battery.
2.
Remove parking brake pedal assembly. Refer to the instructions in section P of the workshop manual.
3.
Disconnect the front driver's side dash wire harness. Push harness up into dash area to make room for clutch pedal removal.
4.
Loosen the clutch master cylinder bolts.
5.
Remove "C" clip from inboard side of clutch pedal shaft.
6.
Remove the clutch pedal assembly.
NOTE:
The pedal must be tipped slightly to remove the shaft entirely.
Do not disconnect the brake pedal assembly when removing the clutch pedal. Leaving the brake pedal assembly connected makes inserting the clutch
pedal assembly easier when the repair is complete.
