DESCRIPTION
A "ping" or "creak" (not a clunk) noise may be heard from the driveline when engine torque is initially applied (shifting gears or engaging clutch). The
cause of the noise is driveshaft or transfer case yoke snapping across the spline clearance on the output shaft as torque is applied. Customers complaining
of this noise should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, repaired according to this bulletin.
REPAIR PROCEDURE - 2WD Cab Plus and 4WD Cab Plus Only.
CAUTION:
Original parts orientation is extremely important. MARK mating components prior to disassembly. Improper component assembly may result in
driveline vibration.
1.
Verify concern.
2.
Mark the yoke and coupling output shaft.
3.
Separate coupling shaft and rear drive shaft
4.
Remove center bearing yoke retaining nut and center bearing yoke. Fig. 1
5.
Clean all oil from splines (male and female) with a suitable solvent.
