A/C COMPRESSOR FAILURE DUE TO INSUFFICIENT REFRIGERANT OIL LEVEL

DESCRIPTION

To reduce air conditioner compressor failure occurrence due to insufficient refrigerant oil in the A/C system, follow the instructions in this bulletin when
component replacement / refrigerant oil replenishment is necessary.

NOTE:

Additional refrigerant oil may be needed which exceeds the amount specified in the workshop manual or BETM. Service Managers should place a
copy of this bulletin in the applicable workshop manual or BETM.

OIL REPLENISHMENT PROCEDURE:

1.

Remove all refrigerant from the A/C system using appropriate R-12 or R-134a refrigerant recovery equipment. Refer to the workshop manual or
BETM.

2.

Service the A/C system as required.

3.

Inspect the radiator support (near the "Emission Control" decal) for an "Authorized Modification" decal.

If no "Authorized Modification" decal exists with this Service Bulletin number listed, proceed to step 4.

If an "Authorized Modification" decal exists with this Service Bulletin number listed, DO NOT add any additional refrigerant oil other than the
amount in the workshop manual or BETM.

4.

Add two (2) ounces of refrigerant oil above the amount specified in the workshop manual or BETM.

NOTE:

Oil may be poured directly into the accumulator assembly or injected by the refrigerant recharging equipment, if equipped.

5.

Recharge the A/C system using the appropriate refrigerant.

6.

Obtain, fill out and install an "Authorized Modification" decal.

List date, dealer number, Service Bulletin number and note that two (2) additional ounces of refrigerant oil, were added to this A/C system.

Clean an area on the radiator support (near the "Emission Control" label) and install the "Authorized Modification" decal.

Cover the decal with a plastic shield.

NOTE:

This decal informs technicians of the system modification if future repairs are necessary.
