Wheel Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove differential cover and measure clearance between rear axle speed sensor and sensor rotor teeth. Clearance should be 0.005 - 0.050 inch.
Rotate axle 60° - 90° and measure again.
3. Repeat preceding steps for a total of 5 measurements.
4. If clearance is not as specified, replace rear axle speed sensor or rotor as needed.
5. Disconnect rear axle speed sensor and measure resistance between terminals on sensor. Resistance should be 0.9 - 2.5 ohms; if not, replace sensor.
6. Check rotor for missing or damaged teeth and replace rotor as needed.
