DESCRIPTION
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate. The vehicle will not exhibit any driveability concerns. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1405
may also be stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) continuous memory.
These symptoms are caused by exhaust pulsation in the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) reference hose on the exhaust manifold side
(upstream). This pulsation causes the DPFE sensor voltage to fluctuate outside the calibrated range resulting in the DTC.
To correct this concern, the DPFE (up-stream) reference hose has been modified (longer, molded and "J" shaped) to reduce exhaust pulsation.
Customers complaining of the MIL illumination should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, have a modified reference hose installed.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify concern.
2.
Check that the upstream reference hose is securely connected and not plugged.
3.
Perform EEC-V Self Test and normal diagnostic troubleshooting according to section F of the workshop manual.

Repair as necessary.
4.
If no trouble codes other than P1405 can be found, replace the reference hose with a modified molded reference hose.
NOTE:

Do not attempt to modify the molded replacement hose.

If the modified upstream hose was installed on a previous repair also replace the EGR tube.
5.
List the date, dealer number, service bulletin number and summary of modifications on the "Authorized Modification Decal":

Install decal on the radiator support.
NOTE:
This information advises technicians of changes made to the EGR system, if future repairs are necessary.
6.
Verify repair.
