Normal Operation
The air bag diagnostic monitor has the ability to deactivate the passenger side air bag under certain conditions. When the passenger side air bag is
deactivated, the passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) switch warning lamp will be illuminated.
The air bag diagnostic monitor monitors the PAD switch warning lamp for short to battery conditions. If the air bag diagnostic monitor detects a short to
battery condition on the PAD switch warning lamp circuit, it will store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1890 in memory and flash a lamp fault code
(LFC) 27 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.
Possible Causes

Wiring, terminals, or connectors.

A damaged or inoperative PAD switch.

A damaged or inoperative air bag diagnostic monitor.
NOTE:

If a seat equipped with a seat-mounted safety belt pretensioner system is being serviced, the air bag system must be deactivated.

Restraint system diagnostic tools MUST be in- stalled under the seats in the safety belt pretensioner to floor connectors.

Diagnostics or repairs are not to be performed on a safety belt pretensioner system with the seats in the vehicle. Prior to attempting to
diagnose/repair the safety belt pretensioner system the seats must be removed from the vehicle and the restraint system diagnostic tools must be
installed in the safety belt pretensioner connectors at the floor connectors. The restraint system diagnostic tools must be removed prior to operating
the vehicle over the road.

Diagnostics may be performed on seat systems other than the safety belt pretensioner system (lumbar, climate controlled, heated, power seat track)
with the seat installed in the vehicle as long as the restraint system diagnostic tools are installed under the seats in the safety belt pretensioner to
