1999-2002 TRUCK - TROY LEE & DUAL SPORT - DRIVELINE THUMP/BUMP NOISE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
1999 - 2000 B3000 Troy Lee Edition with automatic transmission.
2001 - 2002 Mazda Truck Dual Sport Cab-Plus models with automatic transmission.

DESCRIPTION

A "clunking" or "grunting" noise may be heard from the driveline during acceleration and/or braking on some vehicles. Additionally, a "bumping"
sensation may also be felt during take off from a stop or under braking.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Verify customer concern.

2.

Inspect rear axle flange for presence of yellow dot balance mark.

If yellow dot is present, proceed to STEP 4.

If NO yellow dot is present, proceed to STEP 3.

3.

Locate yellow dot balance mark on the driveshaft and transfer this mark at the same orientation on the rear axle flange.

4.

Remove driveshaft from the vehicle according to Workshop Manual (section 03-15 REAR PROPELLER SHAFT (4x2)
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

5.

Apply grease 7 - 13 grams (0.25 - 0.46 oz.) evenly to new driveshaft slip yoke splines.

6.

Install a new driveshaft by aligning yellow dot balance mark to the rear axle flange. Tightening Torque:

94 - 123 Nm (9.6 - 12.5 kgf.m, 70 - 95 ft.lbf)

7.

Check transmission fluid level. Refill with Mercon V if required.

CAUTION:

Use only Mercon V transmission fluid. Use of any other fluid can result in transmission failure.

8.

Verify repair.
