Slip Yoke: Service and Repair

PROPELLER SHAFT SLIP YOKE DISASSEMBLY / REASSEMBLY 
Disassembly Note 

1. Remove the propeller shaft.

Caution:  Do not clamp the propeller shaft in the jaws of a vise or similar holding fixture.

2. Index-mark the propeller shaft.

3. Remove the propeller shaft slip yoke boot.

1) With the front propeller shaft on a bench, cut and discard the propeller shaft slip yoke boot clamps.
2) Separate the propeller shaft slip yoke from the splined stub shaft on the propeller shaft.
3) Remove the propeller shaft slip yoke boot.
4) Inspect the propeller shaft slip yoke boot for damage and replace if required.

4. Inspect the lubricant for contamination. If contaminated, inspect the stub shaft and propeller shaft slip yoke for wear. Replace the propeller shaft as

needed.

Reassembly Note 

1. Slide the boot clamp and then the small opening end of the slip yoke boot on the splined stub shaft as far as it will travel.
2. Install the small propeller shaft slip yoke boot clamp. Use clamp pliers to crimp the small propeller shaft slip yoke boot clamp.

3. Install the propeller shaft slip yoke.

1) Lubricate the stub shaft splines and pull the propeller shaft slip yoke boot towards the propeller shaft.

Use appropriate grease.
