2002 B3000 ROUGH IDLE / ENGINE VIBRATION
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
2002 Truck (B3000) built prior to November 26, 2001
DESCRIPTION
Some 2002 B3000 Trucks built prior to November 26, 2001 may exhibit a rough idle condition. This may be caused by the engine mounts or engine
support brackets and the transmission insulator / retainer.
If this condition exists, perform the procedure below to replace the engine mounts, engine brackets and transmission mount.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify customer concern.
2.
Verify idle condition by performing a power balance test.

If Power Balance Test results show uneven results between cylinders, then use the workshop manual to diagnose the cause of the cylinder
power loss. See figure shown.

If Power Balance Test results show normal cylinder operation (all cylinders are equal), Go to step 3.
3.
Record customers radio station presets.
4.
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
5.
Remove the hood.
6.
Remove the cooling fan according to Workshop Manual (section 01-12B-8 COOLING FAN AND CLUTCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
7.
Attach engine lifting eyes (SST 303-050 or equivalent).
