Recall Campaign # 80906
1998-1999 B-Series - Cruise Control Cable
Dear Mazda Dealer:
Mazda Motor Corporation has determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 1998-1999 B-Series trucks with factory
cruise control.
The cruise control cable may interfere with the cruise control servo pulley and not allow the throttle to return to idle when disengaging the cruise control.
If the cruise control is used and the failure occurs, it could result in a stuck throttle, with the potential for an accident. This condition will not occur if the
cruise control is not being used.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail on June 21, 1999 to inform them that the replacement speed control cables are available and request
that they contact a Mazda dealership for an appointment to have the speed control cable inspected and/or replaced. Detailed information regarding this
Recall Campaign is provided in Attachment I. The inspection/replacement procedure is identified in Attachment II and the letter sent to the owners of the
subject vehicles are included in Attachment III.
Please also notify any customers that may have purchased a Mazda Accessory Cruise Control kit from your dealership, and arrange an appointment to
have the inspection or installation performed.
The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act prohibits selling or leasing any subject vehicles without performing the necessary repair for defects
or failures. Therefore, we request that you have the necessary work completed for all vehicles in your inventory prior to sale or lease.
Please make certain that the appropriate personnel in your dealership are familiar with the details of this recall campaign for responding to customer
inquiries. Should you have any questions, you may contact your District Customer Support Manager.
We apologize for any inconvenience this program may cause you and your personnel. Your understanding and support in carrying out this campaign is
greatly appreciated.
