VIBRATION/TRANSMISSION LEAK
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
All 1998 - 2000 B-3000 4X2.
DESCRIPTION
Some B3000 4X2 models may have a vibration at high speeds which may cause the transmission extension housing to leak or the transmission extension
housing bushing to move out of position or become damaged. This may be caused by the calibration in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). A revised
PCM is available which reduces maximum speed to 90 M.P.H. (145 km/h) for gasoline vehicles and 94 mph (150 km/h) for Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFVs).
This will reduce the possibility of vibrations.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify customer concern.
2.
Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repair as necessary per the Workshop Manual (01-01 TROUBLESHOOTING ([On-Board
Diagnostic Tests]).
3.
Remove rear propeller shaft and inspect for yellow index (alignment) marks where the propeller shaft and differential companion flange come
together.

If the yellow marks are present, proceed to STEP 4.

If the alignment marks are not present, apply alignment marks (03-15 REAR PROPELLER SHAFT [4X2] REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
4.
Inspect the extension housing bushing for damage or out-of-location within the bore.

If vehicle has an automatic transmission (AT) and the bushing IS in the proper location, remove the transmission oil pan and inspect the fluid.

If HEAVY contamination is present or fluid is burnt, replace the transmission. Flush the transmission cooler line system forward and
backward (lines only) and replace radiator.

If MINIMAL contamination is present, replace the extension housing and gasket. Clean the transmission oil pan and install a new
transmission fluid pan gasket. Reinstall transmission oil pan and flush transmission cooling system forward and backward (lines and
cooler).

If vehicle has an automatic transmission and the bushing IS NOT in the proper location, replace the transmission.

If HEAVY contamination is present, flush the transmission cooler line system forward and backward (lines only) and replace Radiator.

If MINIMAL contamination is present, flush transmission cooling system forward and backward (lines and cooler).

If vehicle has a manual transmission (MT) and the extension housing bushing IS in the proper location, drain the transmission oil, inspect fluid
for contamination, and determine if fluid is burnt.

If HEAVY contamination is present or fluid is burnt, replace the transmission.

If MINIMAL contamination is present, drain the transmission fluid, replace the extension housing and refill with Automatic Transmission
Fluid.
